If you were in Canberra in the eighties and nineties chances are you have already experienced Verity and Mike. Operating in most local venues as well as the coastal and country regions of New South Wales, Verity and Mike were renowned for their versatility. To find them on any given week you would have to be at one of the favourite local venues of the day such as the Labor Club, the Old Canberra Inn or the Ainslie Football Club, the Skylight Bar or the Piano Bar at the Raiders Club in Mawson. You would have found them entertaining the crowds with a diverse range of music from Patsy Cline to hits of the Sixties and current top 40. On another week you would have to be a little more adventurous and be at Mooseheads or on a few occasions out at the Rose and Crown, where rock music was the order of the day and night.

Wherever you found them you would have been like many - dumbstruck by the dynamics between these two professionals on stage. Mike, an accomplished pianist, worked tirelessly to ensure the absolute most was made out of the technology available at the time, producing a high quality backing sound. Teamed with Verity’s versatile voice, the duo reached the unreachable star, performing with the energy, quality and pure sound of a five piece band in a two person show. So find them people did. Week after week, year after year, the music lovers of Canberra sought out this duo and enjoyed their never ending passion for excellence, but most of all just for the experience.

Verity and Mike disbanded in 1994 when Verity moved to Queensland. Verity – Standing Alone performed solo for ten years on a circuit from Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, out to the coal fields of Central Queensland then Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Verity was well known for the quality of her performances and developed a very strong following in these regions.

Well, Verity and Mike are back and better than ever but with one minor change. The question asked so many times over so many years: ‘are you two married?’ The previous answer of ‘no, we are only business partners’ is no longer true. Verity and Mike were married at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Canberra in August 2010.

The very happy couple have decided it’s time to put the show back on the road. And back on the road it has been with 2012 seeing the launch of Verity and Mike now standing together. With a new style and a new life, where are these two going this time? Who knows, but what we do know for sure is it will be professional, it will be versatile and it will impress.
